Written application submitted - what happens next?

You have submitted a written application. Find out on this page what happens before the IND decides on your application. Sometimes you or your partner still has to do something.

  • Acknowledgment of receipt and decision-making period

The IND registers your application. This can take up to two weeks. In My IND you can see if your application has been registered under 'Application status'. Then you receive a letter: the acknowledgment of receipt of your application. The acknowledgment of receipt states when you will receive an answer to your application. This is the decision period. The decision period is up to 90 days.

If you have not received a letter after 14 days, please contact us.

    Expected duration: 2 weeks
  • Paying for the application

You will receive a letter telling you how to pay the costs (fees) for the application. You must pay them within 2 weeks. The letter explains how to pay.

Payment period: within 2 weeks after you receive the letter requesting payment
  • Waiting for a decision

You have paid for your application. There is now a waiting period. This can be a long and tense time. The IND will assess your application. The acknowledgment of receipt states when you will receive a decision on your application. This is the decision period. Has the decision period expired and you have not yet received an answer to your application? Then please contact the IND.

    Letter requesting additional information

Sometimes you receive a letter asking for more information. Perhaps you forgot to include some documents. Or more information is needed for your application. Read the letter carefully. Do you have questions about the letter? Then call the IND staff member who is handling your application. You can find their telephone number in the letter.

Send the requested documents to the IND on time. Or upload the documents in My IND under 'Applications'. The letter states the date by which you must send or upload the requested documents. If you cannot, immediately contact the staff member who is handling your application.

The IND cannot assess your application until you have provided the requested documents. The decision period will therefore be longer. The new decision period is stated in the letter.

    Expected duration: 90 days
  • Letter with the decision

The IND has decided on your application. Your application has been approved or rejected. The letter tells you what you need to do next. You also see the decision in My IND.
