File increase asylum applications

For many months, the Netherlands has been dealing with an increasing number of asylum applications from refugees around the world. The reasons for this include delayed migration starting again now that corona measures and travel restrictions have been lifted, the high influx from Syria and the evacuation from Afghanistan. This has led to many more applications. Every asylum seeker is entitled to a careful and timely decision on their application. Asylum seekers who submit an application now must wait 9 months on average. It is expected that this time will increase in the coming period.

The IND is urgently looking for new colleagues who can help in the interview and decision process. We are improving work processes where necessary. Every effort is being made to prevent asylum seekers from having to wait long for a decision. Unfortunately this cannot always be avoided.
