Influx of asylum seekers in December 2022

In December 2022 the total influx of asylum seekers (the total of first and repeat asylum applications and persons journeying in connection with family reunification) was 3,243. This was a fall compared to the preceding month: in November this was 4,584. This brings the total influx of asylum seekers this year to 47,991, which is more than in 2021 (36,620).

First asylum applications

In December the number of first asylum applications was 2,595. That is a fall compared to the preceding month (4,072).
This brings the total number of first asylum applications in 2022 to 35,535. That is more than in 2021, when it was 24,686.
The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted their first asylum application in December are: Syria (794), Somalia (175), Turkey (173), Algeria (154) and Yemen (127).

Unaccompanied minor foreign nationals (UMFN)
The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied minor foreign nationals (UMFN) in December was 256. This is a fall compared to the preceding month; then there were 516. The majority (126) came from Syria, followed by Somalia (48) and Eritrea (27).
The total number of UMFN that submitted an application for asylum in 2022 is 4,207. In 2021 there were 2,191.

Repeat asylum applications

The number of repeat asylum applications in December was 149. In November there were 130. In 2022 there were 1,529 repeat asylum applications in total.

Persons journeying in connection with family reunification

In December the number of persons journeying in connection with family reunification who entered the Netherlands was 499. This is a rise compared to November (382).
The total number of persons journeying in connection with family reunification who entered the Netherlands in 2022 is 10,927. That is more than the total in 2021 (10,120).
