IND resumes asylum applications from Lebanon
The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) will resume processing asylum applications from Lebanese nationals. This decision was made in response to the revised country policy for Lebanon, which outgoing Minister Van Weel communicated to the House of Representatives (only in Dutch).
In the autumn of 2024, the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon escalated. As it was still unclear at that time how the conflict would develop, a decision and departure moratorium for Lebanon was imposed on 14 November. This means that all decisions on asylum applications from people with that nationality were put on hold.
The situation in Lebanon is now sufficiently clear to allow for an adjustment of the country policy. Violence continues in the areas of South Lebanon, Nabatiye and Baalbek-Hermel due to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. However, the available information indicates that the level of indiscriminate violence is relatively low. For the rest of Lebanon, there is no indiscriminate violence caused by armed conflict.
Impact on asylum applications from Lebanon
The new policy applies immediately to all pending and new asylum applications from Lebanese nationals. In view of the rapidly changing context, scope and spread of the conflict in Lebanon, the situation in that country is being closely monitored. If necessary, the policy will be adjusted again.
