Asylum influx in November 2020

​The situation around Corona and the associated measures to prevent further spread of the Corona virus had an impact on the number of asylum applications and processing there of in the first six months of this year.

From June onwards, the total influx of asylum seekers (i.e. the total of first and repeated asylum applications and family members joining the asylum seekers later) has been further increasing. In November, 2016 people applied for asylum; in October, this number was 2042.

First asylum applications

The total number of first asylum applications was in November 1232. In October, this number was 1403. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who have submitted a first asylum application are again: Syria (449), Algeria (117), Morocco (67), unknown (53)  and Turkey (47).

Repeated asylum applications

The number of repeated asylum applications amounted to 147. In October, this number was 144. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeated asylum application are: ), Iran (18), , Afghanistan (14), Nigeria and Syria (both 12), Egypt and Iraq (both 9) and finally Pakistan and stateless (both 7).

Family members joining the asylum seekers later

The number of family members joining the asylum seekers has rise again and amounted to 637. In October this number was 495. Most of these family members came from: Syria (257), Eritrea (169), Yemen (125), Iraq (22) and Turkey (20).

AMV

The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied asylum seeking minors (AMV) ) has increased compared to October. In October this was 115 and in November 150. The top 5 countries of origin of AMVs are Syria (72), Morocco (24), Algeria (12), Somalia (8) and Eritrea (5).
