Extension sticker or card temporary protection Ukraine

The temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine has been extended until 4 March 4 2024. Non-Ukrainians with a temporary residence permit in Ukraine are covered by the directive until 4 September 2023. Read what this means for the extension of your sticker or card.

Letter by post or in My IND

You will receive a letter about the extension of your sticker or card. The IND sends this letter to the address on which you are registered at the local council (in Dutch: Basisregistratie Personen or BRP). Which letter you receive depends on your nationality. And if you are not Ukrainian, on what kind of residence permit you had in Ukraine. After we have sent the letter, you can also find it in My IND. Not everyone will immediately find the letter in My IND. In some cases, it can take about a month before you see the letter. This has a technical reason. We are working on a solution.

Questions about letter

Did you not receive an extension letter by 25 February 2023 and you do come under the directive? Or do you have a question about your personal information in the letter? Then call the IND.  You can only call us in regard to your own situation. You have to be authorised in order to call on behalf of someone else or on behalf of a group.

Do you need help reading the letter? Or help with what you need to do for the extension? The Dutch Council for Refugees (in Dutch: Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland or VWN) has walk-in consultations on different locations in the Netherlands. You can also schedule an appointment with an employee of VWN.

Temporary protection extended until 4 September 2023

In November 2022, we sent a letter to everyone who, according to the IND, would no longer fall under the directive from 4 March 2023. This letter stated that your right to protection in the Netherlands would end on 4 March 2023. This was because the conditions of the Temporary Protection Directive had changed. This is stated in a letter from 18 July 2022 from the Minister for Migration to the House of Representatives (only in Dutch). On 10 February 2023, the government has reversed this decision. Therefore you have temporary protection until 4 September 2023.

Assistance with returning to your country of origin

Until 4 March 2023, you can apply for support and financial assistance from the Dutch Repatriation & Departure Service (DT&V). You can use this money to return (remigrate) to your country of origin. Or to a country outside the European Union (EU) where you are entitled to long-term residence. You must, however, meet a number of requirements. Read the requirements for the remigration policy and how to apply for assistance from DT&V. Do you not meet the requirements for this policy, but would you still like assistance for leaving the Netherlands? You may be able to get help from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
