Extension sticker or card temporary protection Ukraine

Have you received a sticker without an expiration date? Then an extension of your sticker is not necessary. Your sticker is proof that you are allowed to live and work in the Netherlands until the end of the Temporary Protection Directive.

The IND uses stickers and cards. Do you have a sticker that's valid until 4 March 2023? Or do you have a card that's valid until 4 March 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026? Then you have received an extension letter with which your sticker or card remains valid until the end of the Temporary Protection Directive. You will receive one letter from the IND about this. For example, did you receive the extension letter in January 2023? Then that letter still applies. 

Do you have a card that is valid until 4 March 2026? And have you not yet received an extension letter? Then call us.

Your proof of residency

With the following documents you show you are currently allowed to live and work in the Netherlands:

• The letter from the IND together with your sticker or card.

Extension letter Ukrainians

Read the extension letter for Ukrainians. This is possible in Ukrainian (українською), Russian (Русский) or English. The translations of the letter are not valid as proof of residency. Only the letter with your personal details is valid as proof of residency. Which letter you received depends on the proof of residency you have. 

Signature on extension letter

As of 12 September 2024, the IND will sign extension letters on behalf of the Minister for Asylum and Migration. Have you received an extension letter before 12 September 2024? Then that letter was signed on behalf of the State Secretary for Justice and Security.

Further extension of temporary protection

Your temporary protection will be automatically extended up to and including 4 March 2028. The letter you previously received from the IND remains valid. It states that the expired sticker in your passport remains valid in combination with the letter. You do not need to do anything to extend your temporary protection.

Did you stay in Ukraine on a permanent residence permit or under international protection, for example as a recognised refugee? Or do you have the right to temporary protection because your family member is covered by the directive? Then you have received a card.

Do you have a card that is valid until 4 March 2026? And have you not yet received an extension letter? Then call us.  

Your proof of residency

With the following document you show you are currently allowed to live and work in the Netherlands:

• A card that is valid until 4 March 2027. This is a Foreign Nationals Identity Document Type O (O-document).

Your temporary protection will be automatically extended up to and including 4 March 2028. If you have a card, you will receive a letter from us in January 2027 explaining what you need to do.
