Asylum influx in October 2020

​The situation around Corona and the associated measures to prevent further spread of the Corona virus had an impact on the number of asylum applications and processing there of in the first six months of this year.Extension-residence-permit-asylum.aspx

From June onwards, the total influx of asylum seekers (i.e. the total of first and repeated asylum applications and family members joining the asylum seekers later) has been further increasing. In October, 2043 people applied for asylum; in September, this number was 1991. The largest increase can be observed in the group of following family members.

First asylum applications

The total number of first asylum applications was in October 1407. In September, this number was 1489. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who have submitted a first asylum application are again: Syria (394), Algeria (144) Turkey (140), Morocco (96), and Nigeria (61).

Repeated asylum applications

The number of repeated asylum applications is higher than last month and amounted to 142. In September, this number was 155. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeated asylum application are: Syria (17), Iran (15), Afghanistan (13), Iraq (12) and Azerbaijan (7).

Family members joining the asylum seekers later

The number of family members joining the asylum seekers later was 494. In September this number was 347. Most of these family members came from: Syria (194), Yemen (101), Eritrea (70), stateless (23) and Iraq (20).

AMV

The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied asylum seeking minors (AMV) ) is almost the same as the month of September. In October this was 131 and in September 130. The top 5 countries of origin of AMVs are Syria (49), Morocco (24), Algeria (15),  Eritrea (10) and Gambia (7).
