Asylum influx in May 2022

In May 2022, the influx of asylum seekers (the total number of first and repeat applications and family reunifications) was 3,369. This is a decrease compared to the previous month: in April, it was 3,232.

These are top 5 of countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted an asylum application in May 2022: Syria (1.399), Turkey (271), Yemen (207), Somalia (157) and Afghanistan (144).

First asylum applications

The number of first asylum applications in May was 2,343. In April, it was 2,234. These are the top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a first asylum application: Syria (764), Turkey (197), Yemen (172), Somalia (151) and Afghanistan (120).

Russian invasion of Ukraine
With 56 asylum applications, the Russian Federation is no longer among the top 10 countries of first asylum applications in May. In April, it came 7th of the top 10 countries, with 68 asylum applications.

 

Transfer from Afghanistan
Of the 120 first applications mentioned for the country of origin Afghanistan, 85 applications were submitted by people who were brought to the Netherlands from Afghanistan.

Repeat asylum applications

The number of repeat asylum applications in May was 128. In April, it was 147. These are the top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeat asylum application: Iran (24), Iraq (10), Afghanistan (9), Uganda (7) and Syria (6).

Asylum family reunification

The number of people arriving for asylum family reunification was 898. In April, it was 851. These are the top 5 countries of origin of people arriving for asylum family reunification: Syria (629), Turkey (73), Eritrea (43), Yemen (35) and stateless (27).

Unaccompanied minors

The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied minors (AMVs) was 272 in May. In April, it was 158. The top 5 countries of origin of AMVs are:
Syria (137), Eritrea (31), Somalia (28), Morocco (15) and Algeria (13).
