Asylum influx August 2022

In August 2022, the total influx of asylum seekers (the total number of first and repeat applications and family reunifications) was 4,795. This is an increase compared to the previous month: in July, it was 4,376. This brings the total asylum influx this year to 29,114.

 

These are the top 5 of countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted an asylum application in August 2022: Syria (2,265), Afghanistan (474), Turkey (415), Yemen (228) and Eritrea (211).

First asylum applications

An application is only included in the numbers once the first asylum application has been signed during identification and registration by the Aliens Police (AVIM). Since 15 August this year, catching-up efforts are being made to clear the identification and registration backlog of asylum seekers. These catching-up efforts may influence the statistics of first asylum applications.

The number of first asylum applications was 3,642 in August. In July, it was 2,632. These are the top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a first asylum application: Syria (1,512), Afghanistan (450), Turkey (298), Yemen (211) and Eritrea (166).

Of the 450 first applications mentioned for the country of origin Afghanistan, 396 applications were submitted by people who were brought to the Netherlands from Afghanistan.

Repeat asylum applications

The number of repeat asylum applications was 115 in August. In July, it was 127. These are the top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeat asylum application: Iran (14), Egypt (10), Nigeria (10), Syria (10) and Iraq (7).

Asylum family reunification

The number of people arriving for asylum family reunification was 1,038 in August. In July, it was 1,617. These are the top 5 countries of origin of people arriving for asylum family reunification: Syria (743), Turkey (112), Eritrea (41), Afghanistan (22) and Iran (22).

Unaccompanied minors

The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied minors (AMVs) was 588 in August. In July, it was 452. These are the top 5 countries of origin of AMVs: Syria (367), Eritrea (89), Somalia (24), Yemen (18) and Iraq (16).
