Influx of asylum seekers in April 2021

​In April, the influx of asylum seekers, composed of the total of first and repeated applications for asylum and dependents [joining family members of asylum seekers], was 1,933. This represents an increase compared to the previous month. In March, the total influx of asylum seekers was 1,834. The biggest increase is again to be found in the group of joining family members.  

First asylum applications

The number of first asylum applications in April was 915. In March, this was 1,022. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who filed a first asylum application are Syria (253), Afghanistan (71), Algeria (63), Morocco (62), and Eritrea (47).

Repeated asylum applications

In April, the number of repeated asylum applications was 139. In March, this was 142. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeated asylum application are Syria (20), Iran (19), Afghanistan (9), Nigeria (7), and finally Iraq, Morocco, Russian Federation, and Serbia (6).  

Joining family members

The number of incoming persons seeking family reunification has increased again. In April, the number was 879. In March, this was 670. The top 5 countries persons seeking family reunification originate from are Syria (559), Eritrea (105), Yemen (65), Turkey (50) and Iraq (27).

UMA

In April, the number of applications for asylum from unaccompanied minor aliens (UMAs) was 103. In March, this was 81. The top 5 countries of origin of UMAs are Syria (35), Morocco (21), Eritrea (17), Afghanistan and Algeria (7), and unknown (less than 5).
