Asylum influx in September 2021

​The asylum influx has increased for the ninth month in a row. In September, the total asylum influx (the total of first and repeat applications and people arriving for family reunification) was 5,089. In August, the total asylum influx was 3,724. 

First asylum applications

The number of first asylum applications in September was 3,962. In August, it was 2,746. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a first asylum application are: Afghanistan (1,199), Syria (1,133), Turkey (304), Somalia and Yemen (both 186), and Algeria (110).

Evacuation from Afghanistan

The above number of 1,199 mostly consists of applications made by people who were evacuated from Afghanistan. The number of asylum applications made by evacuees in the month of September is 1,104.

Repeat asylum applications

The number of repeat asylum applications in September was 201. In August, it was 207. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeat asylum application are: Afghanistan (79), Somalia (19), Iran (17), Iraq (11) and Eritrea (8).  

Asylum family reunification

The number of people arriving for asylum family reunification was 926. In August, it was 771. The top 5 countries of people arriving for family reunification are: Syria (606), Turkey (82), stateless (52), Yemen (47) and Eritrea (34).

Unaccompanied minors

The number of asylum applications submitted for the purpose of 'Unaccompanied minor' (UAM) was 303 in September. In August, it was 286. The top 5 countries of origin of UAMs are: Syria (145), Somalia (45), Afghanistan and Morocco (both 19), Eritrea and Iraq (both 14), and Algeria (10).
