Asylum influx in September 2020

​The situation around Corona and the associated measures to prevent further spread of the Corona virus had an impact on the number of asylum applications and processing there of in the first six months of this year.

From June onwards, the total influx of asylum seekers (i.e. the total of first and repeated asylum applications and family members joining the asylum seekers later) has been further increasing. In September, 2003 people applied for asylum; in August, this number was 1827.

First asylum applications

The total number of first asylum applications was in September 1502. In August, this number was 1423. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who have submitted a first asylum application are again: Syria (542), Turkey (135), Morocco (95), Algeria (83) and unknown (62).

Repeated asylum applications

The number of repeated asylum applications is higher than last month and amounted to 154. In August, this number was 134. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeated asylum application are: Irag (20), Iran (18), Eritrea (12), Azerbaijan (11), Uganda and Venezuela (both 8).

Family members joining the asylum seekers later

The number of family members joining the asylum seekers later was 347. In August this number was 270. Most of these family members came from: Eritrea (82), Syria (72), Turkey (56), Yemen (44) and Pakistan (35).

AMV

The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied asylum seeking minors (AMV) was 146. In August, this number was 110. The top 5 countries of origin of AMVs are Syria (62), Morocco (27), Eritrea (15), Afghanistan and Algeria (both 8) and unknown (less than 5).
