Information on front of residence document

2. Expiry date: the residence permit is valid up to this date;
3. Place and date of issue: the place where and the date on which you received the residence permit;
4/5. Type of document and details: this indicates your right of residence using on of the following types:- Type I: temporary regular residence permit;
- Type II: permanent regular residence permit;
- Type III: temporary asylum residence permit;
- Type IV: permanent asylum residence permit;
- Type V: EU long-term resident EC;
- Type EU/EER;
- Type Family member EU/EER;
- Type Article 50 Withdrawal Agreement.

- Date and place of birth;
- Nationality;
- Sex: M or V;
7. Remarks:
- Your purpose of stay in the Netherlands;
- Right to work. The residence permit states if you are entitled to work in the Netherlands. This includes whether or not your employer needs a work permit (TWV) for you;
- General resources. There could be a comment on the recourse to general resources. The IND may revoke the residence permit if, for example, you are receiving social benefits;
8. Effective date of right of residence: starting from this date, you have the right of residence in the Netherlands;
9 . V-number: your 10-digit V-number is indicated at the bottom of the residence permit, following the letters VNR. Your V-number is also indicated in correspondence that you receive from the IND.
Types of residence documents (model 2012)
Model 2012 has the following types of residence documents:

Type I: temporary regular residence permit
open minusThis is for persons who are allowed to reside in the Netherlands temporarily on ordinary grounds.
Purpose of residenceThe purpose of residence is indicated on the back of the document under the heading ‘comments’. This is the reason for residence in the Netherlands. For example, residence with family or relatives, study or paid employment.
Employment rightsIt is also indicated under the heading ‘comments’ whether the person is allowed to work in the Netherlands and whether a work permit (in Dutch: tewerkstellingsvergunning or TWV) is required. This depends on the purpose of residence.

Type II: permanent regular residence permit
open minusThis is a permit for persons who are allowed to reside permanently in the Netherlands on ordinary grounds.
Employment rights
Persons with this permit are allowed to work in the Netherlands without restrictions. This means that no work permit (in Dutch: tewerkstellingsvergunning or TWV) is required.

Type III: temporary asylum residence permit

Type IV: permanent asylum residence permit
open minusThis is a permit for persons who have been granted permanent asylum in the Netherlands. They have already had a temporary asylum residence permit for at least 5 years and still need protection in the Netherlands.

Type V: residence permit for long-term residents

Type EU/EER: residence document for Community nationals
open minusThis is a document for persons with the nationality of a country that is a Member State of the European Union (EU), a member of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. The following 2 types of proof of a right of residence exist for these persons:
- The EU/EEA national document. This is a document for citizens of the EU,EEA or Switzerland who have been in the Netherlands lawfully for 5 or more consecutive years.
- The EU registration sticker. This is a proof of residence that can be granted if nationals from EU,EEA countries or Switzerland have been lawfully staying in the Netherlands for less than 5 years.
Employment rights
Persons with an EU/EEA national document or an EU registration sticker are allowed to work in the Netherlands without restrictions. This means that no work permit (in Dutch: tewerkstellingsvergunning or TWV) is required.

Type Family members EU/EEA: residence document for family members of Community nationals
open minusThis is a document for family members of a Community national. The family member does not personally have the nationality of a country that is a Member State of the European Union (EU), member of the European Economic Area (EEAR) or Switzerland. The following 2 types of residence permits exist for these persons:
- The document for family members who have been in the Netherlands lawfully for 5 or more consecutive years.
- The document for family members who have been in the Netherlands lawfully for fewer than 5 years.
Emploments right
Persons with these documents are allowed to work in the Netherlands without restrictions. This means that no work permit (in Dutch: tewerkstellingsvergunning or TWV) is required.

Type Article 50: residence document for persons or family members of persons with the nationality of the United Kingdom who fall under the Withdrawal Agreement
open minusThis is a document for persons who have the nationality of the United Kingdom, and for their family members. The following 2 types of residence documents exist for these persons:
- The document ‘Permanent Residence Document Withdrawal Agreement 18(1)’. This document is for persons who have been in the Netherlands lawfully for 5 or more consecutive years and meet the criteria of Article 15(1) and Article 18(1)(i) of the Withdrawal Agreement.
- The document ‘Residence Document Withdrawal Agreement 18(1)’. This document is for persons who have been in the Netherlands lawfully for fewer than 5 years and meet the criteria of Article 13(1) and Article 18(1)(i) of the Withdrawal Agreement.
Employment rightsPersons with these documents are allowed to work in the Netherlands without restrictions. This means that no work permit (in Dutch: tewerkstellingsvergunning or TWV) is required.
