Submitting original documents after an asylum application

You had not yet submitted all your documents when you applied for asylum. Read how to submit your original documents.

Important documents for your asylum application

For the decision on your asylum application, it is necessary for the IND to know who you are and why you are applying for asylum. You can prove this with original documents.

With these documents, the IND can properly assess whether you are entitled to asylum:

  • Documents proving who you are (your identity) and where you come from (your origin). For example, your passport.
  • Documents proving the reasons for your application (your asylum story). For example, an arrest warrant.
  • Other important documents that you can also submit include:
    • a driving license
    • a family booklet
    • an UNWRA registration
    • a birth certificate

Submit these documents when you submit the asylum application. This takes place during the Reception and Preparation of Asylum Application (OVA). The IND will then have your documents immediately at the start of your asylum procedure.

Do you wish to submit documents after you have applied for asylum? Do this as soon as possible. This allows the IND to examine them and include them in the assessment.

Do you wish to send copies of documents? Your lawyer can send these via the Solicitor Portal.

Sending original documents to the IND

Your lawyer can help you send your original documents. Send the documents to the following address:

  • Are you traveling with your family? Also send documents for your family members.
  • Make copies of the documents you send and keep these copies safe.
  • Include all requested information.
  • Send the documents via registered mail. Registered means that you will be notified when the IND has received your documents. You can then check via track and trace whether your documents have arrived safely.
  • You must pay the shipping costs yourself.

Include information with your documents

Include the information listed below with your documents. Only then can the IND examine and retain your documents. Use this cover sheet for this purpose. On this cover sheet, include:

  • Your v-number. This number has 10 digits and can be found on your Temporary Asylum Procedure Certificate or your Foreign Nationals Identity Document type W.
  • Your address.
  • A short explanation in Dutch, English, French, or German about each document you submit. Explain what type of document it is and why it is important for your asylum application.
  • A Dutch, English, French, or German translation of the document.
