My country is not on the list

Do you live in a country that is not on the list? Then you cannot have the status of a long-term EU resident there.

My residence document has a different description

If the description on your residence permit is different, contact the government organisation that issued your residence permit. Ask how you can get the status of a long-term EU resident in your country.

My residence document has a different abbreviation

The abbreviation on your document may be different from the abbreviation in the table. For example it could be UE instead of CE or vice versa. Well-known examples are Spain and Germany:

  • Spain: until 2012: Residente de larga duración – CE. From 2012: Residente de larga duración – UE.
  • Germany: Daueraufenthalt EG and Daueraufenthalt EU.

Other countries also use the abbreviations for European Community and European Union interchangeably. Both abbreviations are correct.
