IND annual report 2024: more penalties because of more legal proceedings
Once again, the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) got more work done in 2024 than in the year before. More…
The application process for asylum family reunification will become simpler starting 1 December. The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) is gradually implementing improvements, making it easier for applicants to independently complete the various steps in a family reunification application. Where necessary, the IND will provide tailored support.
The number of pending family reunification applications has continued to rise in recent years. Therefore, the IND has been working on improvements to the family reunification process, including a more efficient and simplified application process. Because the Dutch Council for Refugees (VWN) will discontinue individual support for new family reunification applications as of 1 December, the IND is accelerating several adjustments to the application process.
Starting 1 December, the written application form has been simplified, the digital application options have been expanded, and the information at ind.nl has been improved. An instructional video and flyers will also be available in multiple languages, including Arabic, Farsi, and Turkish. Furthermore, starting 1 December, a dedicated IND telephone number will be available for at least six months for questions about the family reunification procedure.
The aim of these improvements is to create a more efficient family reunification procedure with greater control for the applicant. If an applicant is unable to resolve the issue independently or with remote assistance, the IND can provide customised services. For example, a visit to an IND desk, where the applicant can receive in-person assistance.
The IND continues to improve its services. For example, application forms and letters are being rewritten in plain language. The IND is also working to better inform applicants about the progress of their applications. For example, by notifying them of missing documents and required actions. Using customer research and experiences via the special hotline for family reunification, the IND is continuously fine-tuning the process and communication.
