Process
These are the steps in the application process for renewal:

1. Check requirements Asylum residence permit
You have an asylum residence permit.

2. Collect documents The written application form lists which documents you need. Collect all documents before you apply. You can upload the documents with the online application.

3. Apply You can submit this application online or in writing by post.
You can submit the application from 3 months before your current residence document expires.

4. Costs This application is free of charge.

5. Wait for decision on application The IND must take a decision within 8 weeks. This is called the decision period.
We can extend the decision period if it takes longer to decide. For example, because the application is not complete. In that case, the IND will send a message.

6. Decision on application The IND first checks whether you meet the requirements of renewing your residence document.
The decision is in the form of a letter. The decision is positive or negative.
- Positive decision: you will receive a new residence document.
- Negative decision: you will not receive a residence document. You can object against this decision.

7. Collect residence document When the residence permit is ready at an IND desk, you will receive a letter. You must make an appointment to collect it. Make an appointment to collect your residence document.

Working with the residence document
With this residence permit, you are free to work in the Netherlands. Your employer does not need a work permit (in Dutch: tewerkstellingsvergunning or TWV) for you. It says on the back of your residence document ''Free to work, work permit not required'' (in Dutch: Arbeid vrij toegestaan, TWV niet vereist).
Validity of the residence document
The asylum residence document is valid for 3 years.
