Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (Article 8 ECHR) protects the right to private life. In rare situations, you may have the right to stay in the Netherlands under Article 8 ECHR. But this almost never happens.

Why do you almost never get a residence permit under Article 8 ECHR?

Only in rare situations, you may have the right to stay in the Netherlands under Article 8 ECHR. But this almost never happens. For example, you must have a strong connection with the Netherlands. There should also be very special reasons why you cannot or do not want to leave the Netherlands. You also do not meet the requirements for a different residence permit.
The IND only gives this type of residence permit in rare situations. This means that there is a very high chance that the IND will reject your application.

A residence permit based on your right to private life under Article 8 ECHR has a non-temporary humanitarian residence purpose. This residence permit is non-temporary because the situation is expected to last for a long time.
