VisualDOC
This digital application supports document experts in their work. Rather than taking decisions, the system helps staff find the right information more quickly, so that document experts can spend their time on documents that need additional attention.
VisualDOC has two objectives:
- reviewing and compiling comparative data;
- accelerating the research process.
Digital reference material
One aspect of document examination work involves experts comparing a document with other documents of the same type, such as birth certificates or identity cards from the same country. These documents can be saved securely in digital form in VisualDOC.
Documents are scanned and submitted digitally to BDoc and the details can then be saved. VisualDOC makes it easy for staff to search for documents that are similar in appearance. The document expert manually selects documents with the same appearance in order to compare them, but thanks to the ‘assistance’ provided by VisualDOC, they do not need to spend so much time searching for comparison material during the examination process. As a consequence they can focus even more effectively on the examination itself.
Work faster thanks to document recognition
The vast majority of the documents examined by the Document and Identity Office eventually turn out to be in order. VisualDOC helps document examiners identify the group of documents where the risk of fraud is very low.
Thanks to its ‘document recognition’ feature, VisualDOC can identify both a document’s country of origin and its type. BDoc’s document experts have drawn up a list of documents which, given the lower risk of fraud, do not require further investigation. If the data identified by the system appears on that list, the processing of the documents in question will continue automatically
Final responsibility is always in human hands
VisualDOC supports document experts, but does not take any decisions. All the document recognition outcomes are always checked manually by staff.
Any documents not included on the list of low-risk documents are fully assessed by document experts.
VisualDOC allows document experts to devote their time more effectively to complex investigations, whilst low-risk documents can be processed more quickly. The application therefore helps to make the investigation process more efficient, without it being any less meticulous.
