When is my income sustainable?

The rules for sustainable income are different for each type of income. On this page you will read when each type of income is sustainable.

Income from paid employment

Your income from paid employment is sustainable if you will receive the income for another 12 months. For example, you have an open-ended contract (permanent contract) or a temporary contract that is still valid for at least 12 months.

Calculate from the date the IND receives your application. Is your income on the date the IND receives your application not sustainable? The IND will then check if your income is sustainable on the date of the decision on your application. Or on a date between your application and the date of the decision.

You have a temporary contract that is valid for less than 12 months. Or you have a flexible contract.

Your income is sustainable when your current income equals the required amount for the application you are submitting. And each year in the last 3 years before the application you had an average monthly income that at least equaled the required amount. Short periods of unemployment or illness are allowed. But these periods may in total not be longer than 26 weeks. In those 3 years you cannot have received any public funds.

And your temporary contract is  valid for less than 12 months. In this case your income is sustainable if your contract is still valid for a minimum of 6 months. And in the 12 months before your application you have received a salary of at least the required amount. In those 12 months you may not have received unemployment benefits or a benefit for long-term illness. You also may not have received any public funds.
