More than just a job

At the IND, you get to make a difference in the lives of people who come to the Netherlands from all over the world. From refugees looking for safety to students eager to develop their talents, and from highly skilled migrants to families who want to be reunited.

We receive between 100,000 and 150,000 residency applications each year. We also process applications from people who have lived in the Netherlands for a long time and wish to become Dutch citizens. Every day, more than 5,000 IND colleagues in all kinds of roles work towards this goal: from IT professionals and legal advisers to interview and decision staff members, communications staff and managers. Whatever your job may be, one thing applies to everyone here: your work touches the lives of countless people.

Exciting and challenging

Every decision you make at the IND matters. Your work is based on the laws and regulations drafted by the Cabinet in collaboration with the House of Representatives and the Senate. You also take into account European and international treaties. Political policies directly affect your work, and you always follow the rules of the Netherlands’ immigration policy. This can sometimes be complex, but also challenging. It requires a mix of reliability, fairness, professionalism and a people-oriented approach.

Following the rules with people in mind

Enforcement is also part of the job: you monitor abuse and fraud, and ensure that people comply with the requirements of their residence permit. This way, you contribute to a society that is safe and just. But your work does not just affect our society, because the IND is part of an international network. We exchange information, knowledge and expertise with both national and international partners. We also support other countries in matters related to asylum and migration. This is how you give meaning to your work every day.

Our decisions have a major impact on people’s lives. That is a responsibility we take very seriously. It is important not to lose sight of the personal story behind every application. Working at the IND, you will have the opportunity to contribute your ideas on this. You have the opportunity to make decisions, use your talents and really make a difference.
