Monthly figures asylum before Migration Pact

Each month, the IND publishes an overview of the key current figures regarding the asylum procedure on this page. This provides an insight into the number of applications and decisions for that month, as well as the number of pending applications at that time. The European Asylum and Migration Pact was implemented on 12 June; the figures presented here cover the period up to that date only. Figures regarding applications and decisions following the implementation of the Migration Pact will follow later.

Monthly figures up to June 12

First Asylum applications

In June - the month the European Asylum and Migration Pact was introduced - the IND issued 2,170 decisions on first asylum applications that had been submitted prior to the pact's implementation. The IND received 870 new applications up to June 12. The number of pending initial applications fell from 47,880 to 46,570.

Asylum: Dublin procedure (track 1)

The IND is able to monitor the number of applications in the Dublin procedure closely and it made 280 decisions in May. The caseload is still relatively high because the IND is waiting for responses from the Member States in which the applicants previously applied for asylum. Since the entry into force of the European Asylum and Migration Pact, the IND has resumed submitting transfer requests to countries that had previously stopped accepting asylum applications under the Dublin procedure.

Asylum: Safe Country procedure (Track 2)

The number of track 2 asylum applications — consisting of asylum applications from EU citizens and from applicants who have already been granted protection elsewhere in the EU — is low. In accordance with the agreement, the IND has prioritised and monitored these incoming applications.

Asylum: General and extended asylum procedure (Track 4)

In June, the IND issued 2,410 decisions - under both the general and extended asylum procedures - on applications received prior to the introduction of the Migration Pact. A total of 1,090 applications were received up to 12 June. The number of pending applications fell from 52,090 to 50,770.
