You have been given a return decision
Has your residence permit been withdrawn and has a return decision been imposed? Then you have to leave the Netherlands. You are also not allowed to stay in another country in the Schengen Area. Read more about a return decision.

After your regular residence permit has expired, you can stay in the Netherlands and the Schengen Area for an additional maximum of 90 days. Sometimes you need a Schengen visa for this. First go to Nederlandwereldwijd.nl and check whether or not you need a visa.

Do you not need a Schengen visa?
After your regular residence permit has expired, you can stay in the Netherlands and the Schengen Area for an additional maximum of 90 days. These 90 days are called the visa-exempt term. You have to meet all the requirements for a short stay. And you have to leave the Netherlands and the Schengen Area before the 90 days are over.
Registration in the Entry/Exit System (EES)
You can register online in the Entry/Exit System (EES). The EES states when your short stay in the Schengen Area begins and ends. And where and when you enter or leave the Schengen Area. Find out which countries are part of the Schengen Area. In the future, this registration will replace the entry and exit stamps in your passport.
If you do not apply for registration in the EES online, you will still be registered upon departure from the Schengen Area. Registration at the border takes additional time.

Decision on your request
Did you submit your request online? You will receive an email from the IND with the decision within a few minutes.
Your request has been approved
The email will state that you are registered in the EES immediately. You can check yourself until when you are allowed to stay in the Netherlands and the Schengen area. You can do this on the website of the European Union.
Your request has not been approved
The email will explain why your request was not approved. You you will still be registered upon departure from the Schengen Area. Registration at the border takes additional time.
