The IND will close its desks in Utrecht, Rotterdam and Eindhoven at the latest in 2023.
It is one of the measures to better organise the provision of services the coming time. More and more customers access IND services digitally, but by means of the reorganisation, the IND will expressly also invest in customers who find it difficult to be helped digitally and appreciate personal contact. To this purpose, the IND desks in The Hague, Amsterdam, Den Bosch and Zwolle will remain available.
In addition to having IND desks in The Hague, Amsterdam, Den Bosch and Zwolle, the IND also cooperates with various expat centres and issuing locations in the country. The cooperation with these locations will be intensified during the coming period. The IND's desk function remains important, for instance to issue residence documents personally to customers and, while doing so, to verify the identity of persons – through among other things biometric technology. More complex issues are also discussed with customers at the desk.
The staff members at the desks that are to be closed had already been informed of the intended plans. After agreement by the works council, they were informed this week that the plans have become final. When reorganising the IND desks there will be no reduction of staff, because it is not expected that the desk workload will decrease. This is among other reasons because of an increase in the number of students and international employees.
