The IND is sending asylum seekers a letter regarding application procedure processing time

In the coming days, the IND will send a letter about the expected processing time for asylum applications to the legal representative of all asylum seekers whose asylum procedure is currently taking longer than three months.

The letter will be sent to an asylum seeker's legal representative. It explains why the processing times are currently longer than we would like. This is because, among other things, the number of asylum applications for which extensive investigation is necessary continues to increase. In addition, the IND currently has too few staff to carry out the associated work. Additional staff have been hired. The careful training of new staff takes from 6 to 12 months depending on the position. It also makes demands on existing staff who need to train new colleagues.

Asylum seekers who are just starting an asylum procedure will receive a letter immediately after the reporting interview advising that they should take longer processing times into account.
