Influx of asylum seekers in October 2019

​In October, the influx of asylum seekers, i.e. the total of first and repeated applications for asylum and dependents (of immigrants), was 2,695. With respect to the previous month, i.e. September, that is again an increase and also the highest number per month of this year.

First applications for asylum
In October, the total of first applications for asylum was 2,104, representing an increase compared with September: 2,037. The top 5 of asylum seekers lodging a first asylum application consists of Syria (403), Moldavia (204), Algeria (132), Nigeria (121) en Turkey (113).

Repeated applications for asylum 
In October, the total of repeated applications for asylum was 197. In comparison to the previous month (September: 176), this represents an increase. The top 5 of asylum seekers lodging a repeated asylum application consists of Afghanistan (24), Syria (21), Iran (18), Republic of North Macedonia (13) and Algeria (12).

Dependents
Fewer dependents entered in October (394) than in September (424).  The top 5 most dependents originated from consists of Syria (183), Eritrea (118), stateless and Yemen (20), Turkey (11) and Uganda (8).

UMA
The number of applications for asylum from unaccompanied minor aliens (UMA) was 122. With respect to September (100), that is an increase and also the highest number per month of this year. The top 5 consists of Syria (32), Eritrea and Morocco (18) Afghanistan and Algeria (8), Gambia (6), Iraq and unknown (5).
