Influx of asylum seekers in 2021
In December 2021, the total influx of asylum seekers, i.e. the sum of first and repeated applications for asylum and dependents, was 3,751. The aforesaid is a drop relative to the two preceding months, namely 4,578 in November and 5,269 in October.
In 2021, the total influx of asylum seekers was 36,620, representing a substantial increase compared to the two earlier years. In 2020, for comparison, the total influx of asylum seekers was 19,132, and in 2019 it was 29,435.

First asylum applications
The number of first asylum applications in December added up to 2,417. In November, it added up to 3,580. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who filed a first asylum application are Syria (961), Afghanistan (178), Somalia (128), Eritrea (114) and Turkey (109).
Afghanistan Evacuation
The number of 178 first applications for asylum mentioned with the country of origin Afghanistan includes 97 applications filed by persons transferred from Afghanistan to the Netherlands.
Repeated applications for asylum
The number of repeated asylum applications in December added up to 147. In November, it added up to 164. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeated asylum application are Iraq (17), Afghanistan (12), Iran (12), Nigeria (11) and Egypt (9).
Joining family members
In December, the number of entering persons seeking family reunification was 1,187. In November, this was 834. The top 5 countries persons seeking family reunification originate from are Syria (774), Eritrea (85), Yemen (64), Turkey (54), and stateless (50).
UMA
The number of applications for asylum filed with the aim 'Unaccompanied Minor Alien" (UMA) in December was 281. In November, this was 351. The top 5 countries of origin of UMAs are Syria (136), Eritrea (49), Somalia (24), Algeria (13) and Morocco (12).
