Asylum trends in September 2019

In September the total influx of asylum seekers (the total of first and repeated asylum applications as well as for family reunification) was 2.639. This is an increase compared to August, when the total influx was 2.358.

First asylum applications
The total number of first asylum applications in September was 2.042. That is a increase compared to August (1.890). The top 5 countries from which most first asylum applications come are Syria (467), Nigeria (177), Algeria (122), Iran (107) and unknown (89). This last category concerns persons whose nationality could not be defined by the first registration (nationality: unknown).


Repeat asylum applications and family reunification
The number of repeated asylum applications in September was 174. This is an increase compared to the previous month(August: 150). The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeated asylum application consist of Iraq (21), Iran (16), Afghanistan (14), Nigeria (13) and stateless (9).


The number of people entering the Netherlands in the month of September for family reunification (423) shows a increase compared to the month before (August: 318). The top 5 countries from which most people came for family reunification were: Eritrea (164), Syria (134), Yemen (40), Afghanistan (20) and Pakistan (13).

Unaccompanied minor asylum seekers (AMV)
The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied minor asylum seekers (AMVs) was 115. This is an increase compared to August (100). The top 5 countries of origin consist of Syria (40), Afghanistan (10), Morocco (9), Algeria (7), Eritrea and Gambia (6).
