Asylum trends in June 2019

​​In June, the total influx of asylum seekers (first and repeat asylum applications as well as for family reunification) was 2,358. This is an increase compared to May, when the total influx was 2,189. In the first half of 2019 the total asymlum influx was 14.028 (compared to the first half of 2018 that was 13.793).

First asylum applications

The number of first asylum applications in June was 1,700. This is an increase compared to May (1,649). The top 5 countries from which most first asylum applications come were Syria (285), Nigeria (207), Iran (134), Turkey (97) and Morocco (83).

The total number of first asylum applications in the first half of 2019 amounts to 10,625 (compared to the first half of 2018 that was 8.365).

Repeat asylum applications and family reunification

The number of repeat asylum applications in June was 243. This is a decrease compared to May (290). The top 5 countries of origin for asylum seekers submitting a repeat asylum application were Afghanistan (32), Iraq (31), Iran (22), Morocco (14) and Eritrea and Syria (12). 

The number of repeat asylum applications in the first half of 2019 was1685 (in comparison: the first half of 2018 were 1344).

The number of people entering the Netherlands in the month of June for family reunification (415) saw a significant increase compared to May (250). This increase is due to the people coming from Eritrea (May: 107, June: 224). The top 5 countries from which most people came for family reunification were: Eritrea (224), Syria (100), Yemen (21), Iraq (19) en stateless (14). 

As a result the number of people entering the Netherlands in the first half of 2019 amounts to 1718 (compared to the first half of 2018 that was 4,084).

Unaccompanied minor asylum seekers (AMV)

The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied minor asylum seekers (AMVs) was 83. This is an increase compared to May (61). The top 3 countries of original are Syria (21), Eritrea (16) and Morocco (15).

The number of asylum applications submitted by AMV in the first half of 2019 was 490 (in comparison: in the first half of 2018 this was 623).
