Asylum influx in January 2019

In January 2019 the total asylum influx (the total of first and repeat applications as well as entries in the context of family reunification) was 2,426. In the month of December, the total influx was 2,405.

First asylum applications
The total number of first asylum applications was 1,854 in January. In the month of December this number was 1,772. The top 5 of countries where most first asylum applications came from is Syria (204), Iran (156), Algeria (130), Morocco (123) and Nigeria (120). To asylum applicants from Algeria and Morocco applies that their countries are on the list of safe countries of origin.

Repeat asylum applications
The number of repeat asylum applications was 304. This is a slight decrease compared to December (318). The top 5 of countries of origin of asylum seekers who filed a repeat application is: Afghanistan, Iraq, Albania, Iran and Eritrea. Albania too is considered a safe country of origin. The number of entries in the context of family reunification shows a slight decrease compared to the month of December, namely 268 compared to 315.

Unaccompanied minors
The number of asylum applications filed by unaccompanied minors (UAMs) was 145, a rise compared to December (107). Almost one in five persons in this group (19%) originates from Morocco.
