Cross border workers after Brexit

You are a United Kingdom (UK) national or the family member of a UK national. You are living in the United Kingdom (UK) and are working in the Netherlands. The IND considers you a cross border worker.  Find out how Brexit affects you.

Are you a UK national or a family member of a UK national working in the Netherlands and living outside the Netherlands and the UK? Then the general information about working as a cross border worker in the Netherlands applies.  

You can continue to work as a cross border worker up to and including 31 December 2020

Did you start working in the Netherlands as a cross border worker before 31 December 2020? Then you can continue to work as a cross border worker after 31 December 2020. Your situation does not change.

You would like to start working as a cross border worker in the Netherlands after 31 December 2020

The EU and the UK will negotiate future trade agreements after 31 January 2020 (Brexit). These negotiations include cross border work and will determine whether you can start to work as a cross border worker after 31 December 2020. This website will be updated once there is further information.

Citizen service number

You may only work in the Netherlands if you have a citizen service number (BSN). You will receive a citizen service number if you register at your town hall in the Non-Residents Registration (RNI).
