The influx of asylum seekers in February 2021

​In February, the total asylum influx (the total of first and repeated asylum applications and the entering family members joining the asylum seekers) was 1,364. This is a slight increase compared to January (1,349). The largest increase can be found in the group of entering family members joining the asylum seekers.

First asylum applications

The number of first asylum applications was 785 in February. In January, it was 869. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who filed a first asylum application are: Syria (258), Algeria (66), Morocco (63), Eritrea (48) and Afghanistan (36).

Repeated asylum applications

The number of repeated asylum applications was 119 in February. In January, it was 116. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeated asylum application are: Afghanistan (19), Syria (17), Iran (15), Venezuela (8) and Iraq (7).

Family members joining the asylum seekers

The number of entering family members joining the asylum seekers increased compared to February and amounted to 460. In January, it was 364. Most of the family members joining the asylum seekers came from Syria (228), Yemen (67), Turkey (66), Iraq (36) and stateless (12).

UMA

The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied minor aliens (UMAs) amounted at 93 in February. In January, it was 100. The top 5 countries of origin of UMAs are: Syria (34), Eritrea (18), Morocco (16), Afghanistan (6), Algeria and Sierra Leone (less than 5).
