Asylum influx in August 2020

​The situation around Corona and the associated measures to prevent further spread of the Corona virus had an impact on the number of asylum applications and processing thereof in the first six months of this year.

From June onwards, the total influx of asylum seekers (i.e. the total of first and repeated asylum applications and family members joining the asylum seekers later) has been further increasing. In July, 1,666 people applied for asylum; in August, this number was 1,829.

First asylum applications
The total number of first asylum applications was 1,425. In July, this number was 1199. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who have submitted a first asylum application are again: Syria (431), Turkey (186), Algeria (93), Nigeria (83) and Morocco (81).

Repeated asylum applications
The number of repeated asylum applications is lower than in the two previous months and amounted to 134. In July, this number was 228 and in June - 177. The top 5 countries of origin of asylum seekers who submitted a repeated asylum application are: Afghanistan (20), Iraq (16), Iran and Syria (both 11), Morocco (9), Nigeria and Pakistan (both 9).

Family members joining the asylum seekers later
The number of family members joining the asylum seekers later was 270. In July this number was 239. Most of these family members came from: Syria (142), Turkey (40), Eritrea (27), stateless (14) and Pakistan (12).

AMV
The number of asylum applications submitted by unaccompanied asylum seeking minors (AMV) was 113. In July, this number was 83. The top 5 countries of origin of AMVs are Syria (39), Morocco (24), Algeria and Eritrea (both 10), Afghanistan (6), unknown and Yemen (both less than 5).
